Belt Lipectomy
A belt lipectomy is a continuation of an abdominoplasty scar that continues all the way around the patient’s body so that the front, sides, and upper buttock region are all recontoured. The patient has to be repositioned during surgery. After going to sleep they are placed prone (face down) and the posterior work is done first and the area is closed. They are then repositioned to supine (back down) to allow for the anterior and lateral recontouring. Multiple drains are placed and these patients often stay in the hospital for one night (though some choose to go home).
Patients undergoing belt lipectomy have typically lost a great deal of weight (often following gastric restrictive surgery). Often the results are dramatic and patients go on to have other contouring surgery such as breast lifts or brachioplasty.
